The Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is gearing up for the 18th Annual Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure. The 5K run/walk event will take place on September 25, 2011, in downtown Toledo.
The Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure is the largest fundraising event in Northwest Ohio. The event is held in support of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure vision of a world without breast cancer. Last year’s Race brought in more than 19,000 registered participants! This year’s Race will be run “In Celebration” of Pam Downour and “In Memory” of Jenny Sugg.
Along with more than 700 volunteers, the Race is made possible by national and local sponsors who provide the financial support that is necessary to execute an event of this proportion.
Race festivities will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the Race will kick-off at 9:30 a.m. at the conclusion of the Survivor Parade. Special features include a Team Village where participants can meet and mingle with their team members before and after the Race; a Survivor Ribbon Photo that will be taken on Fifth Third Field; and a Survivor Parade where breast cancer survivors can proudly march down Monroe Street toward the Start line.
Online registration is available now at www.komennwohio.org. Registration is $30 for ages 18 and older, and $20 for ages 17 and under. On-site registration will be available at Brondes Ford in Maumee, Ohio from September 23-25. More details about Brondes Ford registration dates can be found at www.komennwohio.org.
For those who cannot make it downtown on Race Day, the Sleep in for the Cure registration option allows participants to support the Race without lacing up their shoes on Race morning. All Sleep in for the Cure participants receive a Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure t-shirt and Race bib.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. The Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Komen for the Cure is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in our 24 county service area.
