Komen Northwest Ohio 2009-2010 Grantees

2009-2010 Grantees

Since 1994, the Komen Northwest Ohio Affiliate has given more than $5 million to fund breast cancer programs that directly benefit the 24-county service area. Through events like Race for the Cure, the Northwest Ohio Affiliate will be distributing more than $778,000 in the 2009-2010 fiscal year toward our mission of saving lives and ending breast cancer forever. More than $560,000 of the total monies raised will be used for local breast cancer education, screening, and treatment programs for the underserved in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.

The following projects have been selected by our independent Grant Review Committee as those that will have the greatest impact in serving uninsured and underinsured women in our service area. 

Women’s Preventive Healthcare Project, Allen County Health Department, BCCP Region 3, to provide breast screening and diagnostic services to 280 low-income women who reside in Allen, Auglaize, Hancock, Hardin, Mercer, Putnam and Van Wert counties. ($41,261)

Breast Cancer Survivorship: Living Life After Treatment, Flower Hospital, to launch a new program directed to 210 survivors in Lucas County. ($39,512)

A Woman First Region 4 Breast and Cervical Cancer Project, Fulton County Health Department, to provide breast cancer screening and diagnostic services to 1,767 low-income women who reside in Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Sandusky, Wood, Williams and Monroe, MI counties. ($100,000)

Mercy Mammography Assistance Program, Mercy Health Partners, Metro Division, to provide breast cancer educational outreach, screening and diagnostic service for 700 women who reside in Lucas, Wood, Ottawa and Monroe, MI counties. ($66,251)

Put Yourself First Today, Mercy Memorial Hospital System, to provide breast cancer education, screening and diagnostic services for 400 women who reside in Monroe, MI. ($47,861)

Radiation Therapy Initiative, North Coast Cancer Foundation to provide radiation therapy for an estimated 50 underinsured patients. ($25,000)

Putnam County Breast Health Project, Putnam County Health Department to provide breast health education and breast cancer screening services for 65 women who reside in Putnam County. ($9,719)

Mujeres Encontra Del Cancer De Seno, PathStone (formerly Rural Opportunities) to provide education, screening, transportation, translation and follow up for more than 1,000 farm workers in Defiance, Erie  Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Ottawa, Paulding , Putnam, Sandusky, Wood and Williams Counties.  ($55,550)

The Komen Promise, Breast Cancer Screening and Treatment, Toledo-Lucas County CareNet to provide breast cancer screening, treatment and education for more than 400 women in Lucas County. ($20,000)

Comprehensive Breast Cancer Support Group Program, The Victory Center, offering patients and their caregivers a higher level of coping through the expression of feelings, fears, successes and challenges in a purposeful, professional environment. ($5,966)

Fly Fishing Retreats for Breast Cancer Survivors, Reeling & Healing, Inc. to support a fly fishing retreat for breast cancer survivors focused on healing through group sharing and support.  ($2,200)

Small Grants Available

The Komen Northwest Ohio Affiliate accepts small grant requests throughout the year. Similar to the traditional grant process, small grants are provided to fund breast health education, breast screening services and breast treatment services. Small grant requests may not exceed $5,000.  A brief application must be completed.
